What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional braces, often chosen by the most discerning of patients. The system employs custom-made, removable aligners that improve the smile gradually. These aligners are almost invisible, allowing you to achieve exceptional results with no obvious sign that you are receiving any form of treatment.
Invisalign™ is as simple as it is discreet. Over a series of visits to our London orthodontic practice, we fit removable, nearly invisible braces to gently move your teeth into the optimum position.
Invisalign™… the ultimate in inconspicuous orthodontics.
How Does Invisalign Work?
This system consists of a series of hard plastic aligners, similar to a retainer. Each of these aligners will be moulded from your upper and lower teeth. Over time, you will get a series of aligners that are slightly adjusted to slowly change the teeth.
Unlike traditional braces, you can remove these aligners when necessary – to eat, clean your teeth, or attend social or business events. In most cases, you will wear the aligners for just a few months, but dependent on your particular needs.
So, what are some of the fantastic benefits that you can experience when choosing the Invisalign system offered by Moira Wong Orthodontics?
Fewer Trips to the Orthodontist
Many adults have very busy schedules and do not have the time to visit an orthodontist on a regular basis. With traditional braces, these frequent visits will be necessary.
The good news is – the Invisalign system requires fewer adjustments – so you will make fewer trips to our centre.
For adults, Invisalign aligners are much more convenient. Every few weeks, you will come in to get new sets of aligners – it’s just that easy.
(Not) Seeing is Believing
The most well-known reason adults opt for Invisalign trays arises from the fact that they are virtually invisible. Constructed from clear plastic, others will never know that you are adjusting your teeth over time.
This is a key advantage if you’re concerned about your appearance in the professional world. You can even remove your aligners for special meetings or events – that’s the beauty of adult Invisalign treatment.
Easier to Clean
One of the difficulties with metal braces is that teeth can be difficult to clean. This can lead to several problems over time including yellow teeth and cavities.
Those who instead opt for the adult Invisalign system provided by Moira Wong Orthodontics no longer have to worry about these scenarios. The aligners can simply be removed in order to properly brush and floss your teeth. This helps to prevent the buildup of food particles in hard-to-reach areas.
Enjoy Your Favourite Foods
You can remove Invisalign aligners when eating, so you can eat your normal foods. However, you still need to avoid sugary foods to prevent tooth decay.
Ready to take on Invisalign journey?
Moira Wong Orthodontics is happy to offer you Invisalign. Just contact us to learn more. You may also book an appointment so that a specialist can take a look at your unique condition and provide you with an accurate assessment in no time at all.
We will first see you for an initial consultation. At this appointment, your specialist orthodontist will do a complete examination of your case. We will take photos and X-rays and conduct a comprehensive assessment to make sure Invisalign is a suitable option for you.
During the appointment, we will create a treatment plan for you based on the complete assessment and the information we have collected during the consultation. This treatment plan will outline how long approximately your treatment will take, how much it will cost based on your specific needs, and what are the expected benefits.
Once you decide to go ahead with Invisalign, we will first take impressions of your teeth. Your orthodontist will use the mould to create a virtual demo of how your treatment will unfold, order your custom made aligners, and determine where precisely your attachments will be placed so we can offer as much comfort as possible. Finally, we will schedule your second appointment in approximately six weeks. Of course, in the meantime, if you need any general dentistry work and dental hygiene, we are happy to book this for you prior to your next appointment, or if the schedule allows it on the same day.
On your second appointment, your orthodontist will place the attachments and give you your first sets of aligners to begin the treatment. We will also provide you with all applicable accessories and full instructions on how long to wear the aligners, how to place them on and take them off, when to move to the next set, and how to care for your aligners.
We will continue seeing you for regular appointments approximately every 5 to 8 weeks, depending on your specific treatment needs. During these regular appointments, your orthodontic therapist will review your progress, make sure everything is moving according to plan and give you your next sets of aligners. We will also monitor the overall health of your teeth and gums, making sure you will complete your treatment by having a healthy, beautiful smile.
At the end of your treatment, when your teeth and your bite have been appropriately adjusted, we will remove your attachments. To ensure the retention of the achieved results and avoid relapse, we will place a fixed retainer. The fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded to the back of the upper and lower front teeth. It keeps them together and prevents them from moving, and you’ll never know it’s there!
We will also provide you with a set of removable retainers for you to wear overnight. The removable retainers are clear thin aligners that go over your teeth. They will help ensure your teeth are protected from moving and prevent you from grinding and applying forces that might affect the achieved results. Finally, we will see you for regular appointments approximately every three months during the first year post your orthodontic treatment. These appointments aim to closely monitor how your teeth behave post-treatment and react promptly if there are any changes.
