Orthodontic Treatment for Children
When to visit an orthodontist with your child?
Most parents think that orthodontic treatments are just for teenagers and orthodontics would be too early for young children. But actually, that are good reasons why children should be seen by an orthodontist no later than age 7.
Specialist orthodontists not only straighten teeth but are also trained to look at the grade of the jaw and denoting adult teeth in young children.
Your child’s teeth may appear to be straight but there could be an underlying problem that only the orthodontist can detect. Examples include impacted teeth and missing teeth. If we can identify the problem early there are treatments that can help the child’s growth and development of their adult teeth and jaws. Early treatment can prevent more serious problems from developing and may make treatments at a later age shorter and less complicated. In some cases, an orthodontist will be able to achieve results that may not be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing.
There are significant benefits for the child if problems are identified early. This would give us the chance to guide your grade, lower the risk of trauma or protruded front teeth, correct harmful oral habits, guide adult teeth into a more favourable position and improve the way the lips meet. Through an early orthodontic evaluation, you’ll be giving your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile. The orthodontist’s goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment and of course at the most appropriate time.
