Children’s baby teeth establish the position for where the permanent teeth will grow. When the first set naturally loosens before falling out it can be tempting for parents to speed up the process and perform their own “home extraction” to alleviate the child’s discomfort.
This, however, is not a recommended course of action as it can cause more problems than it solves including:
– Unnecessary pain
– Torn and bleeding gums
– Possible gum infection
If the process seems to be unduly long your child’s dentist “can let you know if you need to intervene” but it is normally best practice to let nature take its course.
